Roger practices as a mediator and arbitrator. He recently acted as an arbitrator in a WIPO arbitration involving a claim for over $10 million.

Roger was called to the Bar in 1973 having read Natural Sciences at Downing College, Cambridge followed by the Bar Exams at the Inns of Court School of Law. He practised at the Intellectual Property Bar and took silk in 1997. Roger has appeared in a number of high profile cases, particularly in the patents and trade marks fields. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder to sit in the Patents County Court in 1994, subsequently a civil recorder, a Deputy Judge sitting in the Chancery Division of the High Court and then authorised to sit as an Enterprise Judge in the IPEC in 2013. Roger retired from judging in 2022 and has now ceased practice as a barrister offering advocacy and advisory services from the end of March 2024. He is now concentrating on mediations and arbitrations.

As a Deputy Judge Roger heard a wide range of cases, primarily in the field of intellectual property but also in general chancery.

Member of the Intellectual Property Bar Association, the Chancery Bar Association and the Bar European Group.

Until recently a member of the International Bar Association and a former Officer of the IP Law and Entertainment Law Committee of the IBA.

MA (Cantab) Natural Sciences with courses in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Crystalline State and Metallurgy with Material Science.

Former Deputy High Court Judge of the Chancery Division Authorised to sit in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the Registered Designs Appeal Tribunal.

Roger frequently has frequently given talks to various organisations, including the IBA, CITMA and commercial conference organisers on a variety of intellectual property subjects.
